I love, love, love this stamp set from Stampin' Up, and couldn't resist getting it out to make a card for a friend.
As this card is not a standard size I used the envelope punch board to make a custom envelope - if you've not seen one of these, they are so easy to use and I'll try & do that as a mid-week post.
I started with the wood background as this determined the size of the card. I used Smoky Slate and the Hardwood stamp, and then trimmed it to size. I then used a Versamark ink pad to stamp the compass from the Hello, Sailor stamp set, on the top left quarter of the card, and embossed it with silver powder.
I then matted it on black card and used the perfect layers tool to trim a 3/16" layer on all sides - but you can do this however you like. I then measured my layers to determine the size of the card, mine is 6 1/4" tall and 5" wide (so card base is 6 1/4" x 10", scored at 5")
I then used the Ahoy and Best Mate stamps, also from Hello, Sailor to make the decorative tags, also using a Sizzix set of stamps and matching banner dies. Stampin' Up also do some Banner Dies that would also be good for this project. I used the Smoky Slate and Bermuda Bay to make the tags, and the small one is the same card as the base layer and embossed with the silver powder to.
